Dramatic mezzo-soprano Aubrey Odle is the 2025 Second Prize winner of the Butler International Vocal Competition and a recipient of the 2024 Sullivan Foundation Award. During the 2026–2027 season, Ms. Odle joins the Wolf Trap Opera’s famed Filene Artist training program where she appears as Larina in Eugene Onegin and sings a recital in the festival’s popular Salon Series. Other engagements include her return to the Atlanta Opera as Mary in Der fliegende Hollände, and her house and role debut with Opera Philadelphia as Amneris in in new production of Aida by director Kaneza Schaal and visual artist Christopher Myers.
Ms. Odle has developed her artistry through leading young artist programs and principal cover assignments. She has appeared as a Studio Artist with The Atlanta Opera, where she performed Siegrune in Die Walküre, the Lady-in-Waiting in Macbeth, Giovanna in Rigoletto, in addition to covering principal roles.
She subsequently spent two seasons as an Apprentice Artist at The Santa Fe Opera, where she debuted as Siegrune in Die Walküre in a new production conducted by James Gaffigan, and covered Mrs. Grose in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, directed by Louisa Muller and conducted by Gemma New. She also covered Marilyn in Gregory Spears’ The Righteous. In concert, she performed Giovanna Seymour in a selection from Donizetti’s Anna Bolena with The Santa Fe Opera Orchestra under the baton of Iván López Reynoso. At the conclusion of her second season, she received the Lillan Caroff Mayer Award in recognition of her artistic achievement, following the Outstanding First Year Apprentice Award the previous year.
Earlier in her training, Ms. Odle spent two seasons as an Apprentice Artist with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, with assignments including Flora (La traviata), Mercédès (Carmen), and Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), as well as covering Laurene in The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, and Judith in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle with Des Moines Metro Opera.
On the concert stage, Ms. Odle has performed the Liebestod from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde with the Georgia Tech Orchestra, sung the title role of Carmen with Knoxville Opera, and appeared as alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah.
Ms. Odle holds degrees from both Brigham Young University and Utah State University. She is a Second Prize winner of the National Opera Association Carolyn Bailey and Dominic Argento Competition in 2023, as well as Second Prize from Opera Birmingham’s Vocal Competition. She has received recognition from other competitions including Houston Saegerbund and The Orpheus Vocal Competition.
